The Quigley Corporation Receives U.S. Patent for Its Topical Treatment for Radiation Dermatitis
DOYLESTOWN, PA. - July 12, 2004 - The Quigley Corporation (Nasdaq: QGLY)
today announced that it has received a patent for QR-335, its topical treatment
designed to potentially prevent and relieve the effects of radiation
dermatitis. The U.S. Patent, No. 6,753,325 B2 entitled Topical Compositions
and Methods for Treatment of Adverse Effects of Ionizing Radiation. A
pre-clinical "proof of concept" study on pigskin is currently being
planned, since pigs are an established animal model for the testing of likely
human skin reactions.
Richard Rosenbloom, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer of Quigley Pharma
Inc., stated, "This patent provides broad protection for our compound
QR-335. The potential market for this product encompasses individuals exposed
to radiation for therapeutic purposes such as cancer treatment, diagnostic
techniques such as fluoroscopy, or on-the-job exposure. These exposures often
cause skin reactions, which range from irritating to severe. If this compound
proves successful in preventing radiation dermatitis in a treatment setting, it
may also prove valuable in addressing health concerns arising from other,
non-medical exposures to radiation."
No claims are made that the compounds discussed herein are safe, effective, or
approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
